There is none better than the Loire Valley for offering the greatest variety of the best of warm weather drinking wines. From the soft, dry yet fragrant Rosés of Sancerre and Anjou, to the crisp, dry, aromatic Sauvignon Blancs of Pouilly-Fumé, Touraine and Menetou-Salon Sancerre, or the still and sparkling floral and almond-toned Chenin Blancs of Vouvray. These are but a few of the many choices to quench the thirst on a hot summer day. Domaine Brochard, Pinard, Michel Redde and Vacheron, present the style of a classic Sancerre. These pungent, racy and dry Sauvignon Blancs are created from vineyards of limestone and gravel. Well-crafted wines not to be missed, are the exquisite steely Pouilly-Fumés of Didier Dagueneau, such as Acacia, Pur Sang, Buisson Renard or Silex. Or the unique Domaine Rochelles Cabernet d’Anjou Rosé, made of 100% Cabernet Franc, with undertones of black currant. Surprising to many, are the red wines of the Loire. The Domaines Baudry and Joguet produce fragrant, medium-bodied Chinon from Cabernet Franc, aged in small oak barrels. The Bourgueil of Domaine Bel-Air is a slightly more complex red wine, with the same attributes. The Pinot Noir of Domaine Henry Pellé’s Menetou-Salon is great example of a light-bodied, fruity red wine, while the Pinot Noir of Domaine Crochet’s Sancerre, offers a more berried and rounded taste. In any event, they are all best enjoyed young, and slightly chilled.
